Infectious Diseases Update 2010
Thursday, May 13th, 2010
7:45 AM - 3:00 PM

Location
Weill Cornell Medical College
Uris Auditorium
1300 York Avenue (69th Street)
New York, NY

TARGET AUDIENCE: Infectious Disease Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Pharmacists and other clinicians.

STATEMENT OF NEED: The subspecialty of Infectious Diseases is a rapidly involving area of medicine. New pandemics, such as 2009 H1N1 influenza, and antibiotic-resistant bacteria pose formidable clinical challenges. Increased international travel has resulted in a greater incidence of tropical diseases in returning travelers. In recent years, research has led to advances in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of various infections. New challenges, however, continue to emerge, creating a high demand for up-to-date information among Infectious Disease practitioners, internists, and all clinicians who see patients with or at risk of infections.

Course Description: This course seeks to address the following questions through expert lectures followed by dynamic roundtable discussions:
1. What is the optimal way to diagnose and manage Lyme disease?
2. What new diagnostic tools are available in the clinical microbiology lab?
3. What is the best approach to evaluating fever in the returning traveler in 2010?
4. Should we be concerned about drug-resistance in influenza?
5. What are the key issues facing aging HIV-infected patients?
6. What antibiotic options are available for serious MRSA infections?

Course Objectives: This Weill Cornell CME Activity is designed to lead to improved patient care. This program will strive to:
1. Clearly present current strategies in the management of infectious diseases.
2. Provide a forum for expert clinicians to share data, experience and outcomes
related to treatment strategies for infectious diseases.
3. Foster an understanding of treatment strategies and their rationale.

Accreditation Statement: Weill Cornell Medical College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Weill Cornell Medical College designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) ™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
