Launches New Website
November 6 - New York City -- The New York/New Jersey AIDS Education and Training Center (NY/NJ AETC), a federally funded regional Center designed to meet the ongoing educational needs of HIV/AIDS health care providers in the region, officially announced today the launch of their new website: www.nynjaetc.org
Under the direction of the Center for Applied Public Health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, the NY/NJ AETC offers a variety of clinical training programs for physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, oral health providers, pharmacists and other health care professionals. The NY/NJ AETC is part of a national network that includes 11 regional AIDS training centers funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau.
Our mission is to train and educate health care professionals in the NY/NJ region by providing comprehensive training programs that fit any need. The launch of this new website is a significant part of our ongoing outreach efforts to help health care professionals find easy access to current information that will help them understand how to counsel, diagnose, treat and medically manage individuals with HIV infection and help prevent high risk behaviors that lead to HIV transmission, said Natalie Neu, MD, Director of the NY/NJ AETC.
Educational programs are conducted by a network of strategically located program training partners located in New Jersey, Albany, Long Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn and multiple locations throughout Manhattan. These program partners serve the needs of their local health care communities and provide expertise in areas such as: Resistance Testing; Capacity Building, HIV and Youth; Mental Health & Triple-diagnosis; Oral Health Issues of HIV/AIDS patients; Pharmacy Issues for HIV/AIDS patients; Metabolic Complications of HIV; HIV and Women and much, much more.
Key services offered on the website include: · Resource links · Upcoming program schedules · Training program information - including lectures, clinical training, guidance and technical assistance · Program slide sets/Curriculum · Contact information for program partners throughout the region
Given the high prevalence of HIV cases in the region, I am delighted that the network of faculty specialists and support personnel has performed at the highest level of commitment over the past decade to help meet the needs of the region for education and training support for health care professionals. Understanding the importance of early diagnosis and special treatment methods for patients with HIV/AIDS is critical to managing the spread of this disease, said Allan Rosenfield, MD, Principal Investigator and Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health.
